Auditions

Sylvia

SCHEDULE:

Rehearsals will be held evenings either in the Hazeltine Theatre or beginning in the former gallery space 1/12/2026. Performances are 2/12,13,19,20 Evenings and 2/14,15,21,22 Matinees. *NOTE: Saturday performances are matinees this season.

 

CHARACTERS:
 

GREG (30-60) highly likeable married man befuddled by the classic mid life crisis (mostly about work) who impulsively adopts and falls in love with a stray dog. Married to Kate.

 

KATE (30-60) middle-aged college academic (Shakespeare scholar) with her kids finally out of the house, is excited and ready to finally be able to focus on her marriage and her own career. Married to Greg.

 

SYLVIA (20-30) - a rambunctious dog played by a female actor. Good comedic timing and physical comedy skills necessary. Flexibility and mobility essential.
TOM (any age) a man in the dog park who dispenses some common sense advice.

 

PHYLLIS (30—60) a hotshot Manhattanite, Kate’s friend from college, prone to drama and drinking.

 

LESLIE (adult—any age) an androgynous psychiatrist comic relief character.

 

To Prepare for auditions

- Read the script
- Complete an online audition form at: https://forms.gle/Jas9XW32zJ9WMz658 (forms will also be available at auditions)

- Be prepared to do cold scene reads with other auditioners
- Those auditioning for the character of Sylvia need to dress for physical activity associated with playing an energetic “poodle mix”

 

A hard copy of the script will be kept in the Hazeltine office for one day check out. Below is a link to an online copy for review prior to auditions
